- July 14: Alpine Anglers’ General Meeting. The Estes Park Alpine Anglers’ TU chapter presents Insect identification with Bert Cushing. We’ll collect aquatic insects from the stream behind the library, and our own stream ecologist Dr. Colbert Cushing will help us put them under a microscope (literally) and show us the salient points of insect identification. Got a bug you want to know about? Bring it.
Meeting is at Estes Park Library, Hondius Room, Estes Park. See www.alpineanglers.org for more information. - July 15: NoCO Youth River Conservation & Fly Fishing Day Camp
Non-resident camp runs July 15-17 and July 22-24.
Youth Outreach program for students to learn about resource conservation and about fly fishing. Deadline for application is April 30, 2010. For more information, see the Youth Outreach camp page. - July 15: Trout Unlimited Celebrates Its 51st Anniversary On this day in 1959, TU was founded by George Griffith and 14 other anglers to help preserve, protect, and restore trout streams in America. Trout Unlimited has more about these historical events.
- July 25: Phantom Canyon Trail Maintenance. An all day opportunity to spend some time in a seldom visited Nature Conservancy canyon. Work on maintaining the trail in the morning and fish catch-and-release with barbless hooks in the afternoon. See these details and contact Scott Baily or Guy Turenne.
