Chapter Activities with Colorado Youth Outdoors

Members of Rocky Mountain Flycasters have taken an active part in CYO's program for high school students and their parents. Volunteers have assisted in programs including fly tying, rod building, and fly fishing.

The fishing instruction sessions consist of several meetings of fly tying followed by casting lessons, and ultimately a day where participants can practice on ponds and rivers. In 2005, participants were able to build their own fly rods, thanks to a generous contribution. Along with this, participants learn a bit about the ecology of fish habitat as well as cold-water fisheries conservation. The Flycasters' membership has added hundreds of hours of volunteer time to this project.

Here are a few photos from some of the sessions.

Greg Sheets and Rocky Mountain Flycasters would like to thank these RMF members who so freely gave of their time. Martin Vitullo, Tom Olson, Bill Graham, Bill Franz, Milt Mayes, Ron Sheets, Frank Cada, and Dave Coulson. My sincere apologies to anyone who I failed to mention, my notes are scribbled over napkins, sticky notes and odd pieces of paper. Call Greg Sheets if you have any questions. Thanks!

More photos and information about the CYO program are available at Colorado Youth Outdoors.

This page is dedicated to Ralph F. Kronkow (October 2, 1954 - June 20, 2005) for his untiring efforts with Colorado Youth Outdoors.
