President’s Beat

We had an election at the November meeting and after serving 10 years as the chapter’s VP I assumed the duties of President. Jim Lilly is the new VP, Dave Coulson, is the new Treasurer, and Lee Evans is the new Secretary. Your new officers have a tough act to follow. Greg Evans really pushed the chapter forward with improved ecological activity and the Robert Behnke - Rocky Mountain Flycasters Research Fellowship endowment. Ron Sheets was treasurer back to the Jurasic period of the chapter and did a wonderful job. Both left the chapter financially healthy and vibrant with new members.

I think Greg’s and my hope for the coming years are the same—more active member participation in TU and our local chapter’s activities. We have over 865 members yet only about 100 take advantage of the chapters meetings, environmental activities, and most importantly the friendships that develop among like-minded people at these events.

The chapter’s challenges for the next year will benefit from your input and action. We are planning a major fund raising event in February 2009. This is the first banquet type activity we have held in over 5 years. More importantly, we as chapter members and local citizens will be very active in the Glad, Halligan, and Seaman Reservoir planning and Environmental Impact Study activities. These three dam building projects will impact local cold water resources, the riprarian ecology, and fishing more then anything that’s happened in the local area since Europeans moved into Larimer/Weld counties 160 years ago.

Finally, I hope to see you all on 14 Dec at the Christmas party. For details see the calender section of this web site.
