President’s Beat

Messages from the President of Rocky Mountain Flycasters.

November 17, 2011

November 2011 Guest Night

I need to tell you we had a great meeting last night. Approximately 80 in attendance, maybe half of whom were new guests and when the dust settled we had signed up 19 NEW MEMBERS!!! I think there will be more as many said they wanted to think about it.

General Meeting Raffle
Lee Evans calls out raffle winners

My hat’s off to Stephanie Mullins for handling the membership table so wonderfully, to Charles Plunkett for taking charge of the raffle table, for Paul Wehr for helping wherever needed, to Dick Jefferies for hosting our speaker, to Phil Wright for another great slide show, and to all the board members and leadership council members for visiting with the newcomers and making them feel welcome.

Connor gave a great talk about competitive fly fishing and Bill Edrington wowed us all with his southern drawl, unconventional humor, and knowledge of fishing that he shares so well. The entire audience was hanging on every word, taking notes about wet fly fishing techniques, and his thoughts about the artist Cristo’s project to drape the Arkansas. When he was done and the night over, only then did we realize he never showed us a picture of a fish. It was a great talk.

I had Phil put the 4 verbs from NTU on the screen (protect, reconnect, restore, sustain) and then talked about their meaning and what RMF has and is doing in each area. Just preparing that talk caused me to better understand our charge.

It was a great evening! Now to party hearty on Dec 9!!

Lee Evans, President
