Fly tying at CTU Youth Camp

Colorado Trout Unlimited Youth Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp

Rocky Mountain Flycasters Chapter continues its enthusiastic participation and financial support of the Colorado Trout Unlimited (CTU) River Conservation & Fly Fishing Youth Camp. This is a residential experience at a ranch typically located in the Colorado Rocky Mountains—the camp’s mission is the same as that of our chapter’s Day Camp—to engage youths actively in nature, and introduce them to conservation principles while teaching fly fishing skills.

2011 CTU River Conservation and Flyfishing Youth Camp

Colorado Trout Unlimited is now accepting applications from students aged 14 to 18 for its sixth annual River Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp, June 12-17, 2011 at the High Lonesome Ranch near DeBeque, Colorado. The camp is designed to educate students on the importance of coldwater conservation and provide hands-on fly-fishing instruction. Students will also participate in a watershed project to repair habitat in a nearby stream. Camp classes include: principles of ecology, hydro-geology, aquatic vertebrate and invertebrate sampling, hydrology, trout behavior, trout stream entomology, the biology of pollution, acid deposition, and politics of conservation and human effects on the Rocky Mountains.

Applications must be received by April 15, 2011. Information and application materials are available on the Colorado Trout Unlimited web site.

Help by making a financial donation to the Youth Outreach programs.

Other Youth Outreach programs: Trout In the Classroom, Boys & Girls Club, Scouting, and Colorado TU Youth Camp.

Rocky Mountain Flycasters sponsored CTU campers in 2006 through 2010.
